Blog #15

For my online article I chose “Why does beauty exist” an article I found on Discover magazine. This article was written by Jonah Lehrer and starts in introducing some of his general thoughts about beauty and what it does to us. He then goes to explain how neuroscience can be related and shows an experiment which was done which connects our curiosity to us finding things beautiful. I plan to use the experiment to strengthen my argument in my essay but also use some of lehrers analysis to help put my point over the top.

Next for my two beauty podcasts I am choosing to use Jamie’s and Taylors for one (https://tmara1.uneportfolio.org/interview-about-beauty/). I wanted to choose theirs because I think Taylors younger sister offers a lot to say about beauty. Out of all the interviews she has the most different view compared to all of my sources I am already using. In other words I’m thinking the more perspectives the better.

For my second interview I am going to use Jon’s Interview. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=asDGYDNXt4Y ) Jons Friend had another great perspective I thought. I feel like he described the scene well and had a lot of analytical things to say about the essences of beauty.

  1. The article you chose seems like it is really good! I also want to use Jamie and Taylor’s podcast because I agree, since she is much younger she has a different perspective on art which is really interesting to hear. I think using different perspectives is a good technique. Using John’s podcast will be good too, I remember his friend had really great descriptions about the scenery he had witnessed so including those details into your essay would be interesting to hear.

  2. The article you chose sounds really cool! Using an experiment to support your points will definitely help your argument. I think you chose great podcasts as well if you’re planning on adding in the idea of how perspectives can change from different people and ages.
